Russian Forces Advance in North and Northeast
Ukrainian Counteroffensive Shows Progress in East
Russian forces have made advances in the north and northeast of Ukraine, while the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the east has shown progress, albeit slower and more limited.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed on Monday that its troops had taken control of the village of Hrianykivka, located in the northern Kharkiv region, as well as several other settlements in the northeast.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials reported that their forces had recaptured the village of Bilohorivka in the eastern Luhansk region, which had been occupied by Russian troops since May.
Despite the recent advances by both sides, the overall situation on the ground remains largely unchanged. Russia continues to control about 18 percent of Ukraine, an area larger than Switzerland.
The war in Ukraine has now entered its second year, and there are no signs of a quick resolution to the conflict.
